Bear in mind that the suggestions are only for wordpress platform and DIY website platforms such as Wix and Squarespace has different interpretation in terms of its SEO functionality.
Install Yoast SEO or Rank Math Plugin.
Yoast SEO allows you to edit your title tag and meta description (which I will explain in my subsequent points). All you need to do is to activate the Yoast SEO plugin, and the extension will be available at the bottom of posts. Go to edit snippet (for both mobile and desktop) and insert your keywords for title tag and meta description.
Do keyword research for your website’s Title Tag.
There are plenty of free tools for you to look for the most searched for keywords that are related to your business. In fact, most of the SEO tools provide limited keyword searches like LSIGraph and ScreamingFrog so you can take advantage of the trial period to search for your keywords for free.
Remember to be brief as there is a maximum of 60 characters for your title tag to be shown before Google cuts of the remaining words or worst , replacing the title tags altogether, all randomly generated by google algorithm.
Always write your own Meta Descriptions.
Similarly to the point above, keywords, keywords, keywords. Always do your research and make sure that you use the keywords that are relevant to your business and also relevant to the current trend. What I have found from Proud Cactus’ How-To-SEO series on title tags and meta descriptions is to perform a brain storming session with your staff if you do not have the means to keywords tools. You will be surprised at how much you can get in a short 30-minute session. Either that, or you can look for this affordable SEO service from Melbourne Small Business SEO.
Oh let’s not forget that there Google allows a maximum of 160-word (an approximate, sometimes it’s 150 or 155, it really depends on the algorithm. Even having alphabets that may take up more blank space than usual, looking at you, “W”, will affect the criteria on whether Google truncates your meta descriptions or not).
Also, it is highly recommended to have unique meta descriptions and if possible, title tags for all pages and why you may ask? Imagine if you own an organic produce shop called ‘Rainbow Organic’ and when someone searches for your shop’s name, they will see the same title tags and same meta descriptions – it’ll confuse the searchers. They may abandon the search completely or visit your page and leave because they did not find what they are looking for, resulting in a high bounce rate.
